Re: Custom SWQL Alert : meaning of each DB field ?

Thanks mate !

- I already did the SNMP Walk on the device, and yes, you are correct that he HPc7000 SNMP Agent is reporting garbage (lack of configuration, something I am fixing in the HP SNMP agent, as it should be done), so that is fine : once I fix that on the HP SNMP Agent, SW should have that status information properly in the NODE VIEW (as in the images attached), right ?

My question now is :  what would you suggest to do in order to have ALERTS set up based on the Monitored status of this box ?

1.- Should try to avoid doing in SW "my own SNMP Poller" for my HP Enclosure to gather the SNMP status and alert on them ? (since that information is already polled by SW) or

2.- Should I try to create the ALERT via an SWQL query to gather the "OK/NOT OK" information on each sensor (already in the Orion DB) ?

Also, the lack of formal documentation from SW on what each table/field means makes total sense with your comments (i.e. SW doesn't want people creating actions / ALERTS based on changes on certain tables/fields, since that can change from release to release), however I wonder : why then SW includes as an alternative to create ALARMs "Custome SQL / SWQL query" ? Does that makes sense ?

Cheers

can u show the screenshot of your trigger and reset condition.. and also trigger action...there are some settings like below as well in trigger action.

Re: How we configure SNMP V3 trap in solarwinds

looks like your Solarwinds services or IIS is not running correctly..

1. Can you please verify Solarwinds services

2. Check the IIS application pool and website settings

3. Check the connection with DB

4. If above all is fine, restart the Solarwinds services once.

5. Last would be to run the configuration wizard once.

if i want to display all acknowledged alerts on month basis then is there a way to modify this query?

Hi Srivastava,

1. Suspecting it's permission issue. Can you check if you have proper rights to open all pages?

Yes, I have admin rights.

2. How about your Network speed?

Network speed is good.

3. Have you tried to access the same NMS from local server?

Yes, I have tried to load the page it is taking more time i.e 5- 10 min.

Will be helpful to understand the exact issue if you share the screenshot.

Is it just the web interface that is slow?

Post login to the page I am getting below error and it is taking more time to load i.e. 5-10 min.

if not check the number of nodes being polled, are you running the database on the same server

we are using database server separately in our environment.

I would just make a copy of the out of the box hardware sensor alert and use that as my starting point.  If any sensor is critical notify the owner of that node.  Getting under the covers and building your own duplicate snmp poller for the same stats that you know you are already polling is redundant and pointless.  No swql needed.

Yes there would be, but exactly what modifications depends on what your end goal is

Is the month an alert falls into based on the time the alert triggered, or are you looking for the time the alert was ack'ed?

Do you just need a count of all alerts that month, or trying to get a list of all alerts and their names and all the rest of this info during the time window?

Could you draw a mock up of the things you would expect to be in the report and how you might want it laid it?

M looking for the same report format which u have put together but need to

be able to pull every month..it would be alert created time and not ACK

time...

It's for my one team who monitors the alerts and informs the technical

teams.

Hi Team,

We are viewing more database size in our environment. Could you please let us know how to reduce the size.

we have already perform the shrink in database but it is not working as expected.

looking for how to reduce the size for top usage table in our environment.

Re: Port Connection for Server

I think it would be a feature request.  However, I would check first if you have NPM as NPM is the one primarily getting those topology information.  If you only have UDT, I'm not sure if it does pick up the whole topology.  It only concerns itself with Endpoints connected to networking device.

For your second question, What I'm gonna do here is to check the MAC address table of those devices that shows that Endpoint as indirect.  If it appears there, then it would be picked up by UDT.

The never used report does not really tell you when the port was last used but it is directly connected to data retention.  For example, you have an endpoint connected to a networking device and unplugged it, on your device, it will show as last used 45 days ago.  In UDT, it will show as never because the data retention is set to 30 days by default.  45 > 30 so it would really show as never.

As for your question, better ask the vendor.

VMware CPU resource allocation NUMA

$

We had issues in our VM environment and I figured I could help others. When we configured the resources we did not account for NUMA.

The high latency of accessing remote memory in NUMA (Non-Uniform Memory Access) architecture servers can add a non-trivial amount of latency to application performance. ESXi uses a sophisticated, NUMA-aware

scheduler to dynamically balance processor load and memory locality.

For best performance of latency-sensitive applications in guest OSes, all vCPUs should be scheduled on the same NUMA node and all VM memory should fit and be allocated out of the local physical memory attached to that NUMA node.

https://www.vmware.com/content/dam/digitalmarketing/vmware/en/pdf/techpaper/vmw-tuning-latency-sensitive-workloads-white-paper.pdf

This caused extreme slowness and latency in our environment. We had the Pollers VM's set at 4 CPU and 2 Cores but we changed it to 8 CPU's and 1 core. The Web and Core where at 8 CPU and 2 Cores,we changed to 12 CPUs and 1 Core. I noticed that the processor stayed well below 70 percent and overall system performance is better.

Because vCPUs are required to be scheduled on a virtual machine's home node,

there exists a limitation on how

many vCPUs can be associated with a NUMA home. For best performance, the

number of physical processors (or

cores) per NUMA node becomes the maximum vCPU count a virtual machine can

have to be managed by the

NUMA scheduler. For example, on a 4-core (and 8 logical processors with HT)

per NUMA node system, only up to

4-vCPU virtual machines can have a NUMA home.

Re: NPM Orion | Low Disk Alerts - Show name of Drive

Hi elevated-tech so if your not attached to that particular Alert I would suggest starting a new one from scratch.

Firstly as per the response from jpaluch there are some Out-of-Box alerts which you could copy and use as a template, but in essence, you need to do something like this:

1. Make sure you set the Trigger Condition to alert on "Volume"

2. If you want to just trigger on VM's you could set a Custom Property on the machines you want to Alert on and add it into this filter section.

3. This configuration is saying the drive must fall below 5% AND be less than 1GB (This is to exclude large drives alerting) - Customise these to your requirements, you could just have a percentage or a size, or you could make it an OR statement instead of AND.

Hope this helps.

My Dashboard tab missing

Bit of a strange one here - on logging into my Solarwinds Web application this morning - the 'My Dashboard' tab is missing from the top tab - see below.

To the best of my knowledge nothing has changed since Friday when it was there.

I've looked through the menu bars / custom views and everything appears to be as before, so for the life of me I cannot figure out where it has gone?

Anyone any ideas as to how I get this tab back?

Thanks for posting this issue.

It is important for us who were about to upgrade to 6.7.0 and if it's a bug, I hope it is resolved quickly by SolarWinds.
